Bass Contender T-shirts: Long & Short Sleeve

November 11, 2012 by BigEd

Well guys for you Basscontenders that want to get in on the Tshirt wagon here it is. We have both short sleeve, long sleeve and hoodies available for your liking. The shirt material is heavy duty weight six ounce Gildan material. The hooded sweatshirts are also the heavy weight material. The cost is low because of the design. The same ‘set up’ is used for the front and the back for both Long Sleeve and Short Sleeve only opposite. The short sleeve has the small tag print on the front and the long sleeve has the same tag print on the back while the large Bass Contender logo is on the front for the long sleeve and the back for the short sleeve. For hooded sweatshirts the large logo is on front for the pull over and on the back for the zipper.

Colors available: Navy Blue, Royal Blue or Black. White is available but not reccomended because of logo colors.

What this means for us basscontenders , is there is no minimum run for long sleeves, short sleeves or hoddie sweatshirts. It can all be done on one silk screen run. As long as we meet the minimum order we can get both types of shirts and both types of hoodies at the same time. Below is the Hoodie Zipper front and Hoodie Pull Over, both have hand pockets in front.

Add $1.50 for 2XL, $3.00 for 3XL. Pricing is as follows:

Short Sleeve Tshirt: Small-XL $10.00, XXL $11.50, XXXL $13.00

Long sleeve Tshirt: Small-XL $12.00, XXL $13.50, XXXL $15.00

Pull Over Hoodie with front pocket: Small-XL $17.50, XXL $19.00, XXXL $20.50

Zipper Front Hoodie with front pockets: Small-XL $23.00, XXL $24.50, XXXL $26.00

Big Ed has already taken some orders for T-shirts and Hoodies. If you would like to be in on the order give Big Ed a call and he can get you on the list. Payment in full is required to place the order.

Later; Big Ed!

RESULTS: El Capitan Nov 10, 2012

November 10, 2012 by BigEd

Ten Basscontender members and two new prospective members merged in San Diego and gave it everything they had traveling almost three hours south to El Capitan reservoir in Lakeside, Ca. The rain cleared overnight on the drive down and gave way to cold and cloudy conditions as the front moved through leaving unwilling fish who wanted nothing to do with the offerings from the boys up north.

All twelve anglers met at the bouey line as we blasted off at 6:00am in cloudy skies with smoke on the water. A special shout out and congratulations for a great finish to the new prospective members Adam Day and Eddie Obrien who would have claimed 1st place and 3rd place respectively. These guys are on fire in only their second tournament ever and both with with Basscontenders in consecutive events. Adam and Eddie will be a force to reckoned with as the Basscontender season continues towards the finish line at the March event.

I asked Adam how it felt to win his first ever bass tournament in only his second tournament fishing for bass, ” It felt incredible, it felt so good words cant’t describe. Even though I didnt win the money to see myself on top of the leader board and on the front page of the website is payment enough for me”! I am sure Adam wont have to wait long before he experiences the feeling once again.

Congratulations to Mike Rupp for winning the days event and to Derrick for coming in 2nd place. Lets hear from the guys down below in the “Blog” are called “Speak your mind”. Just sign in and create a username and password and post a reply. Remember we can go back in months and years to read the “How did you do it” reports as long as we hear from you. If you have any questions on how to log in just give Big Ed a call he will walk you through it. There is also a link on the right side panel of the website that says “Members Log In Here”.

2013 Tournament Schedule of Events

October 19, 2012 by BigEd

The 2013 new year at California Bass Contenders starts off with a bang at Lake Perris and only keeps on getting better as we wind down the current season and get ready to start a new season of Basscontenders in April. We all know that the San Diego lakes always spawn sooner than LA lakes. So in Feb & March 2013 we will be right on the action at Otay and Hodges as we get it in gear and fish SD lakes at the right time of the season. Our ‘season opener’ and Top Ten Tournament will find its way to Lake Piru in the middle of April where the men once again begin to seperate from the boys.

A hop, skip and a jump to Silverwood, El Cap, Irvine at dusk in the summer and Havasu in October leads way to DVL in November.

In September 2013 the Bass Contenders will hold its monthly tournament at Lake Castaic as it joins in the fun at the Annual Castaic Bass Club Challenge where we will fish our tournament within their tournament. In September 2012 nine different clubs showed up and over 56 boats total from all over Southern California showed up to fish at Castaic Lake as they represented their club. The top three bag limits compete against the top three bags from all of the other clubs and a winner is crowned. This event ended up being one of the biggest tournaments to be held in recent history at Castaic Lake. There hasn’t been a 50-boat field since the late 70’s early 80’s on any of the local lakes.  Top honors for the day went something like this in 4th place California Bass Contenders 26.33#’s, 3rd place Bass’n Buddies with 26.67#’s. 2nd place fell to Ventura County Bass club with 26.99#’s and 1st place with a total of 28.21#’s was the Castaic Bass Club.

See you all at the next monthly meeting!

Results: Pyramid Oct 13th

October 13, 2012 by BigEd

Pyramid early morning launch before the general public worked our great. We were all on the water by 6:00am and met at the bouey line in the dark just before safe light. Wind was blowing bigtime but the excitment kept all 20 anglers from noticing. It was a beautifull sunrise as all 20 anglers blasted off in different directions. This day brought two new anglers to their first tournament, prospective brothers Adam Day and Eddie Obrien as well as another appearence by John Hernandez and Little Big Ed Jr.

  Water Temp 71º-73º
  Air Temp 52º-85º

2 Derrik Yoshinaga 4 7.68   16.39
3 Mark Bowman 4 6.34 2.62
4 Paul Huber 4 6.22
5 Bill Layne 4 6.04

17 Joe Nava 1 1.61
18 Adam Day 0 0.00
18 Eddie Obrien 0 0.00
18 John Hernandez 0 0.0

Kenny Isago won 1st Place and Big Fish with his partner Derrik Yoshinaga bagging 2nd place.

Kennys Big Fish weighed in at 7.19lbs

Landed near the frewway cove boat dock on a MMIII drop shot

His other fish came by way of texas rig black grape off the dam rip rap

Derrick fished frogs for one fish, cranks for two fish and worms to land his fourth fish giving him a bag of 7.68lbs. Kennys and Derriks combined weight of 16.39lbs was plenty enough to land the Big Boat honors for the “Pride at Pyramid”. These guys are good at what they do and they will tell no lies as long as you ask no questions.

For everybody else fishin was tough for the most part, the camaraderie was excellent. No five fish limits made it to the scales. It was a dink fest of massive proportions for the blue Champion with some fiesty striper action in the first ten minutes. I would like to thank the Basscontenders club for allowing me to fish with my son Little Ed. I can’t tell you what a blast it is for us to fish a tournament together father  & son, laughing, arguing, losing tackle is all part of a fun day on the water. These are memories that will last a lifetime and once again I say thanks.

Very similar results for a club fishing Pyramid the day after we did: https://castaicbassclub.com/blog/?p=910

See you all at the meeting in November!

RESULTS: Castaic Bass Club Challenge

October 12, 2012 by BigEd

The Manny Nunez Memorial Bass Club Challenge Tournament in September went off with out a hitch. We had 9 different clubs and over 50 boats total from all over So Cal show up and fish at Castaic Lake.

The five competing teams met up early for sum grub and tactics at Lyons Parkway Denny’s. Big Ed and Joe Vermilyer, Ron Janke and Alfred Vasquez, Derek Yoshinaga and Frank Castro, Gabby Hayes and Kenny Isago, Randy Estrada and Alex Cox. It was a fun event that matched up nine local clubs as the California Bass Contenders sat only ounces out of the money. Congrats to Derrik Yoshinaga for catching the Big Fish of the tournament that cashed him a sweet $500.00 prize. Next year the Bass Contenders will be back for redemption.
