Well the new season is upon us and it looks like we all renewed our Costco cards, because Lake Havasu was serving up fish in bulk.
Teams started showing up as early as Wednesday to pre-fish and start the nightly routines of adult beverages and great dinners. I don’t think any of us were disappointed with either.
Saturday’s Derby Day started with a surprisingly smooth launch. I think our early departure helped us all avoid the Sh!t Show that we expected from the Desert Storm Poker Run and all of it’s spectators. What we didn’t expect was wind that blew all day with gusts up to 20mph. The wind combined with up to 204 mph boats not only caused choppy water for a very wet and rough boat ride, it pretty much washed away any hopes of finding any bedding fish. That boat ride left many of us wet and sore! 3pm came and we all successfully made it to our weigh in at the Old Havasu Landing Casino. Well one of of our didn’t make it across because they got stuck in the London Bridge channel hour plus traffic. I actually not sure if that was bad luck or timing because that was the place to be on Saturday (wink, wink).
Because this is a 2 day tournament, teams were anxious to see where they placed so they could start to plan their spots for Sunday’s finally. Here is how it went:

Saturday nights club Dinner was hosted by House Wallapai with asada tacos, rice, beans, salsa, and all of the fixings. I would post photos, but what happens in Havasu…..stays in Havasu. Big THANK YOU to all that pitched in, especially guest angler Edwin S, for your help.
Sunday the lake was like a completely different lake. Little to no wind the desert Storm crowd was gone or too hung over to come out and stayed home. Whatever the reason, it was great to fish the lake undisturbed.
