It was a pretty chilly morning as twenty four Bass Contenders made their way up the hill to compete in the CBC May Silverwood tournament. I noticed Gabby Hayes and Tom Creasy got off the freeway one exit early at the DOT weigh station.. not sure what they doing there?
Every Big Dawg has his day and this day the Big Dawg was Mark Pavlinac who brought in his best two fish limit with a 3.24lb kicker for a total weight of 5.82lbs. Congratulations Mark for a victory well deserved. Another very well deserved job was second place finisher Gil Bowman who fished with his guest angler Wayne Thompson all day in the wind with no trolling motor. Who does that.. who can fish in the wind and still smash a second place victory? Great job Gil for your two fish limit weighing in at 5.52lbs. Rounding out the last money winner was no stranger to the leader board Derrick Yoshinaga who brought in 5.43lbs of bass. Who would be the Big Fish winner at the Wood? None other than our founding President Gabby Hayes who mashed a 3.33lb Big Bass caught on the ‘Ol Gabby worm. My partner Pops and I could hear Gabby from about a mile away early in the morning before the sun rose… he was cussin some pretty choice words yelling at his non boater something about stupid FedEx drivers not knowing how to drive?
Special CBC shout out to non-active member big Alex Arias who caught the biggest bag today tipping the scale at 6.04lbs who along with his partner Alfred Vasquez secured the Big Boat award with 11.32lbs.
As you can see these fish were stingy today. It was a tough bite and a brutal grind in the afternoon. I culled four fish for maybe a half ounce each time as the results below show only a couple of ounces separating first place to tenth place. The bite shut off as the sun got higher and higher and with air temps right at 100 degrees the lake lice was out in force. It was a nightmare at the launch ramp getting off the water but somehow we all managed!
Tackle Box: It was straight up drop shot bite for everybody with green and brown offerings.
Air temp: 46 at launch 98 at weigh-in Water temp: 63 at launch 67 at weigh-in Morning flat calm, noon wind 10-12 mph Water visibility dirty brown 1’-3’
