Lower Otay Saturday February 25th is the second to last event in the Bass Contender regular season ending next month with the Havasu 2 day event. The April 29th Diamond Valley tournament kicks of the new CBC season. At the February meeting the club membership voted 15-4 in favor of fishing a team event at Otay due to the fact that historically this tournament is a sight fishing tournament.
Under normal circumstances a non active member or a guest is not allowed to compete for prize money but the rules for team tournaments differ. Please read the full tournament rules and by-laws on the CBC website… the details for team events are below:
Team Format Events:
- Non-Active members and Guest anglers are allowed to compete for 1st-3rd place and Big Fish in the Team tournament Format events due to the fact that your fish are shared weight with your team partner. The angler must pay the regular tournament fee to be eligible for placing and Big Fish awards.
- Non-active members and Guest anglers have the choice to fish for the regular Guest fee of $11.00 tokens. If an angler who is eleigible to fish for the Guest fee only chooses to enter at the reduced fee, they will not be awarded for placing or Big Fish award. This declaration MUST be made prior to launching by notifying the Tournament Director. If the TD is not notified the angler must pay the regular tournament fee.
The non boater fee for this event is $55 plus half of the gate fee. This event is launch and go and the limit is five (5) fish 12″ minimum mouth closed on the red wilhego board per team. Weigh-in 3:00 O clock in the parking lot. The shared weight team points are as follows:
1st place (20) twenty points
2nd place (16) sixteen points
3rd place (12) twelve points
4th place (8) eight points
5th place (4) four points

Please note that points will be awarded to active members only, although the non active and guest anglers are eligible to compete for prize money in the team format. Once voted in a new member will receive their 30 points for meeting attendance and 30 points for tournament attendance for a total of 60 points maximum, provided the points earned were all in the same season.
EDITORS NOTE: The team format sounds like such a fun idea and a great time on the water. Even though there are a couple club members who hate the idea of a team format, the majority welcome the idea and look forward to the team event. Anglers working together on the same boat and sharing the same five fish limit promoting fish catching techniques and camaraderie amongst the boater and non boater. No more alleged “Back Seat” syndrome created at countless sight fishing tournaments in the past, just a fun day on the water bass fishin what could be better?
