UPDATE: RE-OPENING INFORMATION

May 23, 2020 by BigEd

Hello Basscontenders: Hope this CBC update finds you and your family well. The well known ring announcer Bruce Buffer is best known for his famous “LETS GET READY TO RUMBLE” statement… well that is where we are. With the Covid-19 stay at home orders slowly lifting the upper management of the CBC decided it is safe for us to begin to gather. We are recommending that you wear a mask and social distance yourself from other members as we meet and gather for the June regular meeting. Please be aware some members are more susceptible to catching the virus than others so we strongly recommend wearing a mask and keeping six feet apart as a rule of thumb. We will meet in an outdoor area in San Dimas at the shop of Meza’s HVAC Heating and Air Conditioning 550 E. Arrow Hwy at 7:00PM on Wednesday June 3, 2020. Meza’s HVAC is in the rear of the complex drive to the back you cant miss it. Please bring your own folding lawn chair and come a few minutes early so we can start ontime. We will have a raffle bring some dinero.

1) Bass Club news and tournament updates.
2) February Piru & March Havasu payout.
3) Collect 2020 club dues $35 each member.
4) Collect all Bass Boat Insurance from EVERY active boater. Please bring a paper copy no emails or texts.
We look forward to seeing you at the meeting. Please do not forget to bring a paper copy of your boaters insurance and $35 club dues.

Thanks: Big Ed!

CBC COVID-19 UPDATE

April 18, 2020 by BigEd

Hello Bass Contenders:

A message from your CBC President:

After much thought and consideration from our club President Conrad Apodaca Sr and the entire CBC Board of Directors we have decided to cancel the April meeting and the April 25th tournament at DVL. In addition the April Delta Road trip has been canceled and postponed to middle of October. In addition the May meeting and tournament has also been canceled due to the stay at home orders. Moving forward we will wait and see with respect to the current health crises. A group notification will go out once we return to a normal schedule.

Please stay safe and protect your loved ones. We look forward to seeing you on the water soon!

Best Regards: Big Ed!

March Two Day Havasu Champion Derrick Yoshinaga brings home the bacon from the mighty duel in the dessert. This tournament wraps up the 2020 season with the new season opener in April just around the corner. Derrick Yoshinaga managed an impressive five pound lead after both days with a respectable 4.71 Largemouth and Big Fish award for Sunday that anchored his total bag weight of 28.77lbs. Second place went to Bass Contender angler Sergio Sanchez who brought two legit limits to the scales with a total of 23.59lbs not to mention also snagging the Big Boat Award with his partner in crime Angel Sanchez with a combined weight 43.13lbs of dessert Lobina’s. Also with a Big Fish Award for Saturday with a 3.71lb slug smallmouth Conrad Apodaca Jr landing in the third spot atop the tournament finishers. Special Basscontender shoutout to the Havasu most photogenic award winner and also catching the biggest Largemouth of the tournament Rod Stig with a 4.45 dessert slug.

Also emerging from the Duel In The Dessert is the new 2019-2020 Angler Of The Year Johnny Abyad who absolutely wreck ’em all season long!

Congratulations: 2020 Angler Of The Year Johnny Abyad

March 9, 2020 by BigEd

Congratulations the to 2019-2020 Angler Of The Year Johnny Abyad who plowed his way to the top of the leaderboard in short fashion. Johnny finished the 2020 CBC season with four first place wins with another two second place finishes out of eleven tournaments. In ten of eleven events Johnny finished in top ten just crushing the competition to earn his spot at the top of leaderboard. I had the chance to get some insight from Johnny looking back on the past season.

“First of all I would like to thank God for bringing me to the sport I have grown to love. I would also thank my amazing girlfriend for her understanding and allowing me to take so much time off and go fishing.

I started fishing about three and a half years ago just by chance, went to puddingstone caught my first bass and I was hooked. Then a friend of mine asked if I wanted to go to a bass club meeting and I told him sure that sounds interesting, that’s when I joined California Bass Contenders and started fishing on the back of everyone’s boats. About one year and half ago I decided that it’s time for me to buy a boat of my own and that is when it all began.

I guess what I love about bass fishing the most is the camaraderie with all the members. Chatting and sharing everyone’s life stories and how they were able to catch their fish as well as the competition against you and the fish to see which one is smarter”.

Way to go Johnny we all congratulate you on a great performance!

See you on the water: Big Ed!

Conrad Apodaca Jr wins it again for second time in a row bringing home the victory, big fish and big boat.
